(DALLAS/FORT WORTH, TX, 1/9/16) – Later today, the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-DFW) will hold a media availability in Richardson, Texas, to call on federal law enforcement authorities to investigate a deadly Christmas Eve shooting in which the suspect apparently targeted his victims because he believed they were Muslim as an act of domestic terrorism.
WHAT: CAIR-Dallas to Ask That Feds Probe Shooting as Act of Domestic Terror
WHEN: Saturday, January 9, 4 p.m. (Local Time)
WHERE: MAS Islamic Center, 1515 Blake Drive, Richardson, Texas, 75081
CONTACT: CAIR-DFW Executive Director Alia Salem, 817-538-8269, firstname.lastname@example.org
The alleged shooter, 30-year-old Anthony Paz Torres, who wore a traditional Jewish cap (yarmulke), had reportedly visited Omar’s Tire Shop in Dallas two weeks prior to the attack. During that visit, he allegedly asked whether “Omar” is Muslim. When told that he is, the alleged attacker reportedly replied, “All these Muslims, they’re making problems for us,” and told employees at the site, “I’m gonna come back and kill all of y’all.”
During the December 24 attack, Torres reportedly shouted “Muslim” as he fired, killing one person and critically injuring another. Several other people suffered minor injuries. Torres was charged with murder and aggravated assault and is being held on $500,000 bail.
The alleged bias motive for the attack was only revealed in a police update on the case yesterday.

“Whenever any Americans are attacked based on their actual or perceived race or religion, that attack should be treated as domestic terrorism and investigated accordingly,” said CAIR-DFW Executive Director Alia Salem.
She noted that there has been an unprecedented spike in anti-Muslim attacks since the Paris terror attacks, the San Bernardino shootings and Donald Trump’s inflammatory anti-Muslim rhetoric.
Yesterday, CAIR called on Trump to offer a public apology to a Muslim woman verbally abused by the crowd and kicked out of one of his campaign rallies tonight in South Carolina.
