Legal Assistant

Position: Full-time salaried

The Council on American-Islamic Relations is the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization with chapters across the country. The national headquarters is located on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C.

CAIR-DFW is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant. This position will report to CAIR-DFW Civil Rights Director.

Essential Functions/Duties

Job responsibilities include assisting the Civil Rights Director in handling incident reports, conducting client intakes in a variety of matters, maintaining relevant databases, answering phones and responding to online inquiries and requests for assistance, compiling relevant data for grant reporting, and basic data entry.

The Legal Assistant will be primarily responsible for:

  • Handling incoming incident reports as part of our “Report Hate” campaign;
  • Managing outreach and advertising for the “Report Hate” campaign;
  • Conducting client intake and keeping detailed and organized case logs;
  • Contacting clients and other relevant parties on case matters and scheduling;
  • Providing ongoing administrative support for open case matters;
  • Administrative tasks such as answering telephone calls, responding to online inquiries, filing papers, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate and thorough case records;
  • Researching relevant legal topics;
  • Corresponding with clients on case updates and developments; and
  • Assisting the Civil Rights Director with other matters as needed.

Communications Director

Position: Full-time salaried

CAIR-DFW is seeking a full time Communications Director.  This position will report to CAIR-DFW Chapter Executive Director.

Essential Functions/Skills:

The Communications Director is responsible for strategic communications planning and execution to carry out CAIR-DFW’s mission and vision with various stakeholders and audiences.

The Communications Director is primarily responsible for:

  • Researching issues related to CAIR-DFW’s mission and vision
  • Setting strategic communications objectives for the organization and developing a strategic communications plan
  • Advising key staff on strategic communications initiatives
  • Creating messaging and talking points on issues related to CAIR-DFW’s mission and vision
  • Reporting on political and societal trends impacting CAIR-DFW’s mission and vision
  • Producing CAIR-DFW’s annual report and annual video
  • Compiling and distributing daily and quarterly newsletters
  • Researching and writing commentaries and editorials related to CAIR-DFW’s mission and vision
  • Initiating strategic marketing and communications campaigns in line with CAIR-DFW’s mission and vision
  • Producing video, print and graphic materials in support of strategic marketing and communications campaigns
  • Managing social media campaigns to maximize communication of CAIR-DFW’s mission and vision
  • Representing CAIR-DFW in media interviews
  • Facilitating coalition-building with communicators at organizations that support CAIR-DFW’s mission and vision
  • Training and coaching of CAIR-DFW staff and members of the public as requested
  • Drafting news releases, media kits, action alerts, statements, and other communications materials
  • Monitoring news for information related to CAIR-DFW’s mission and vision

Qualifications-

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in journalism, media relations and/or marketing and communications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in journalism, communications or a related field
  • Ability to speak and write in a clear and understandable manner for internal/external communications
  • Excellent news writing and editing skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong social media skills/understanding
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Thorough knowledge of social media tools,
  • Knowledge of media databases and tools such as Cision, TVEyes, Meltwater

Community Development Director

Position: Full-time salaried

CAIR-DFW is seeking a full time Community Development Coordinator.  This position will report to CAIR-DFW Chapter Executive Director. 

Essential Functions/Skills:

The Community Development Coordinator  is responsible for strategic communications planning and execution to carry out CAIR-DFW’s mission and vision with various stakeholders and audiences.

The Community Development Coordinator is primarily responsible for:

  • Facilitating community-oriented programs and activities geared towards youth and community leadership;
  • Organizing and mobilizing different segments of the community to support different CAIR campaigns and activities; 
  • Facilitating CAIR’s volunteers recruitment and training programs;
  • Leading CAIR’s internship program. 

Qualifications-

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in community activism and mobilization
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments and meet deadlines; must be able to work well both independently and in a team environment
  • Attentive to detail and well-organized
